Why there is no single best turnstile brand

The honest premise: Boon Edam, dormakaba, and Alvarado do not compete with Gatestile, or each other, on the same axis. Boon Edam and Alvarado both sell across most of the same categories we do. dormakaba's public catalog is narrower and concentrated on speed gates. Comparing all four on price is impossible because none of the four publish one. What is comparable, and sourced, is company footprint, category overlap, and what each manufacturer discloses before you ever request a quote.

Company snapshot: headquarters, manufacturing, and founding

Boon Edam's own site puts its global headquarters in Edam, Netherlands, founded in 1873 with its first revolving door built in 1903 (Boon Edam Group overview, retrieved July 2026). Its US operation runs a 200,000 sq ft manufacturing facility in Lillington, North Carolina, where the company says turnstiles and revolving doors are built (Boon Edam manufacturing facility, retrieved July 2026).

dormakaba is headquartered in Ruemlang, Switzerland, formed in 2015 when Kaba and Dorma merged (dormakaba about us, retrieved July 2026). We checked its public Entrance Systems pages for a US manufacturing address and did not find one listed at that level of detail.

Alvarado manufactures at a single US site: "Main Office / Manufacturing, 12660 Colony Street, Chino, California," and states it has supplied US-manufactured products since 1956 (Alvarado, retrieved July 2026). Gatestile's own primary US assembly runs out of Brooklyn, New York.

Boon Edam: the closest category overlap

Boon Edam's own description covers "security revolving doors and mantrap portals, innovative optical turnstiles and ADA-compliant access gates, and robust full height and tripod turnstiles" (Boon Edam, retrieved July 2026), which is the widest overlap with our own speed gates, tripod turnstiles, and full-height lines among the three. dormakaba: speed gates only, as far as the public catalog shows

dormakaba's Entrance Systems line is built around the Argus speed-gate series: the Argus 40 and 60 list door leaf heights from 990 to 1800 mm and passage widths from 650 to 1000 mm (dormakaba speed gates, retrieved July 2026). If your project needs waist-high or full-height turnstiles alongside a speed lane, dormakaba's public catalog does not appear to cover that; Gatestile's own full-height turnstiles line and tripod line both do.

Alvarado: the second US-manufactured option

Alvarado's four listed categories are Secured Entry Control, Sports and Entertainment, Asset Protection, and Crowd Control, with optical turnstiles, waist-high turnstiles, full-height turnstiles, and security revolving doors named within Secured Entry Control (Alvarado, retrieved July 2026). That is real overlap with our own tripod and full-height lines, and, alongside Gatestile, one of two US-manufactured names in this comparison.

Lead time, warranty, and price transparency

"Not published" is a plain, honest answer, not a knock against a competitor; a manufacturer that quotes lead time and warranty per project is doing something normal in this industry. It does mean you cannot compare those two variables until you actually ask, which is why Gatestile publishes both up front.
